Flow MTB’s Review of the 2025 Giant Talon 1

Flow Mountain Bike recently took the 2025 Giant Talon 1 for a proper test ride to see just how far entry-level hardtails have come. We gave it a read, and a few points really stood out especially for riders just getting into mountain biking or looking for a capable, no-fuss trail companion.

Here are a few highlights from the review (and some great points Michael made):

The Component Package and Pricing

“Giant has spec’d it with sensible components that work well together. The Maxxis Rekon Race tyres offer decent grip and rolling speed, while the Shimano drivetrain keeps things simple and reliable. The inclusion of a dropper post adds a welcome level of control on descents, especially for newer riders who are still building confidence.”

A Budget Hardtail That Feels Modern

At the store, we’ve always felt the Talon series might be entry level, but its geometry doesn’t feel outdated. Michael agreed with this when testing the new Talon 1 saying “Geometry-wise, the Talon strikes a surprisingly modern balance for a budget hardtail.”
