Aussie Chris Harper Powers to Victory on Giro’s Queen Stage
Australia’s own Chris Harper has delivered the ride of his career, claiming a commanding solo win on Stage 20 of the Giro d’Italia in the iconic “Queen Stage” featuring the brutal Colle delle Finestre climb.
Harper, riding for Team Jayco AlUla, attacked from a breakaway on the lower slopes of the 18.5km Finestre and never looked back. He pushed clear with 15km remaining on the climb and time trialled across the gravel and fog to win at Sestrière, his first ever Grand Tour stage victory.
"I came here looking for GC, and I was feeling good in the first week, but then got sick on the second rest day," Harper said. “To come back and win on such a legendary stage is really special.”
Harper now joins fellow Aussie teammates Luke Plapp and Kaden Groves as stage winners at this year’s Giro, capping off a successful three weeks for the team.
Built for the Mountains
Harper’s victory came aboard the Giant TCR Advanced SL, equipped with a CADEX 50 Ultra WheelSystem, Aero Cotton tires, Amp saddle, and the CADEX Race Integrated handlebar. The lightweight race machine proved the perfect partner for his 32km solo effort.
A Big Result for the Team
Team Jayco AlUla leaves the Giro with two stage wins, multiple top 10 finishes, and plenty of reason to celebrate. From heartbreak to heroics, Harper’s win was a gritty reward for resilience and a massive moment for Aussie cycling.
